A cool leisure activity in Catalan culture is watching fútbol! Or as known in America as soccer. Fútbol is the most watched sport in Spain. And of course the famous FC Barcelona is the team most people in Catalonia support.
One of my favorite events was watching the “El Clásico” on local television. This is the biggest fútbol match in Spain between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Although the great rivalry between these two teams is so exciting and fun the rivalry stems from a greater political divide between the Spanish government and the Catalan parliament which I think makes this event all the more interesting. This game stands for something much greater than simply a rivalry between two cities.
